Activists against gender-based violence are protesting outside the Johannesburg Stock Exchange in Sandton north of Johannesburg. The protest started in the early hours of this morning.
The Call-to-Action group, a consortium representing over 70 civil society groups, are calling on big business to help fund initiatives aimed at curbing gender-based violence in the country. The Call-to-Action grouping says the protest is to raise awareness of the high number of gender-based violence cases and xenophobia in South Africa. Motorists have been cautioned to steer clear of Sandton during the planned shutdown. For more on the story we now cross live to our reporter Hasina Gori in Sandton.
