The South African Human Rights Commission says the four complainants in the Eben Etzebeth matter have asked for financial compensation of over a million-rand. The SAHRC has formally lodged a complaint against the Springbok lock in the Equality Court for an alleged racial slur and assault at Langebaan, on the West Coast, in August. Head of the Commission’s Legal Services, Buang Jones, says the court will determine if Etzebeth has violated the Equality Act.
He says the commission isn’t asking for Etzebeth’s recall from the World Cup, but that the law should take its course.
